The adventure

Welcome to our blog!

Who are we? Move over Mike and Mal - Russell and Chuck are here!

Russell and Chuck are practiced 4WD enthusiasts, campers and genuine everyday Aussies. After a practice trip to the Flinders Ranges and Lake Eyre in 2010, they have not only upgraded from tent accommodation, but meticulously planned the itinerary to allow for two nights camping at each destination.

Chuckie (not his real name) is joined by sister Merry, while Russell (also not his real name) is joined by wife Princess Fiona and kiddy-winks Flora and Bloom.

What are we setting out to achieve? To explore Australia - To have fun - To prove that camping doesn't have to be expensive - To return home with vehicles intact!

What are we travelling in?
Chuck: I've got my trusty Toyota Hilux and an Sturt Offroad camper from Outback Campers Victoria, which I recently purchased especially for trips like this. The Hilux is kitted out with a two inch lift by OME, a safari snorkel, dual battery system, steel Toyota bullbar with IPF driving lights, Maxiss Bighorn 31/10.5R15 tyres. Communication by an 80 channel Gme UHF handset. The Sturt camper has full annex with an extra room if needed, dual gas bottles, lighting is by Korr lighting systems. A good night sleep is had on a queen size innerspring mattress. Extra 12 volt outlets have been added to run lights ,Aqua Cube shower unit and any other devices.

Russell: I'm travelling in a family friendly Nissan ST Patrol and offroad Jayco Expanda Van. The Nissan Patrol is kitted out with outback draw system with cargo barrier and divide with a fridge slide out for the 40ltr Engel, dual battery system, extra 12volt plugs in the back for the kiddy-winks, alloy bullbar and IPF driving lights, Bridgestone D697 AT and communications is taken care of with a GME all in handset 40 channel controlled UHF. The night accommodation is in a 16.49 Jayco Outback Expanda. Modifications have been 12 volt water pump and water gauge, second gas bottle and generator box on the a frame with modification to the spare wheel to allow it to be removed from underneath the a-frame. On the rear is a purpose built swing away bike carrier. Protection from stone damage has been taken care of by Stone Stomper.
